Democrats move to 'temporarily' replace Feinstein on Judiciary Committee amid calls she resign

Image
Senate Democrats are working to temporarily replace California Sen. Dianne Feinstein on the Judiciary Committee after she announced her continued absence from the Senate. With Sen. Dianne Feinstein requesting to be temporarily replaced on the Judiciary Committee as she recovers from shingles, Senate Democrats on Thursday began working to break the logjam that has held up critical judicial nominations for weeks. A spokesperson for Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he will ask the Senate next week to allow another Democratic senator to temporarily fill her place on the high-profile committee on which Democrats hold a mere one-seat majority. Rep. Ro Khanna, who like Feinstein is a California Democrat, was the first to publicly call on Feinstein to step down, questioning Thursday morning, "Why [does she] not just take the step and resign instead of going through all of these motions?" "It has become painfully obvious to many of us in California that she is no longer able...

After reading the indictment against Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence said he "cannot defend what is alleged" but promised to "clean house" at the DOJ. Former Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday he "cannot defend what is alleged " in the most recent indictment against former President Donald Trump, a seemingly tougher stance than he had previously taken regarding the Justice Department's decision to charge his former running mate. Still, Pence, who said he read the 49-page document over the weekend, reiterated his accusation that the Justice Department deployed a "two-tiered system of justice" against Trump and said he would hold off on giving his final judgment until the former president has had his day in court. "This indictment contains serious charges, and I cannot defend what is alleged," he told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Wednesday, personalizing the issue both with his family's military s...

I don't know that answer," McCarthy had said during an interview with CNBC's Joe Kernen. "But can anybody beat Biden? Yeah, anybody can beat Biden. Can Biden beat other people? Senate Democrats ratchet up calls for Sen. Bob Menendez to resign

An increasing number of Senate Democrats are calling for the resignation of New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez. An increasing number of Senate Democrats are calling for the resignation of New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez Tuesday after a federal grand jury returned a sweeping indictment against him late last week. The Senate returned to Washington Tuesday for the first time since Menendez, a Democrat, was indicted on allegations on federal bribery charges. While many Senate Democrats were initially slow to react to Menendez's charges, many of them are now called for Menendez to step aside. Most notable among those calls is one from Menendez's New Jersey Senate colleague Cory Booker. Booker called the allegations against Menendez "hard to reconcile with the person I know," but ultimately concluded that Menendez ought to resign his seat in the Senate. MORE: Defiant Sen. Trump, DeSantis and others balk at future Republican debates, with competing calls to change or cancel them

Image
The RNC is facing a series of tests of its ability to wrangle Trump, DeSantis, Ramaswamy and other 2024 candidates into complying with Republican debate rules The Republican National Committee is facing a series of tests of its ability to wrangle the 2024 presidential field into participating in or complying with the party's requirements for the primary debate process. The growing outcry underlines the push among some of the White House hopefuls and their aides to winnow down the crowded field so that a clear alternative to Donald Trump can emerge -- while Trump, still the early front-runner in polling, now argues the debates should cease entirely so the party can focus on the general election next fall. Disdain from nearly every primary candidate over the national party's debate process has ramped up in recent weeks, with calls intensifying from the campaigns of prominent candidates including Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy for the RNC to con...

"This is going to be a historic visit," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said as she previewed Biden's trip to join the UAW picket line. President Joe Biden will join the United Auto Workers picket line Tuesday in his strongest show of support yet for union members striking against General Motors, Ford and Stellantis. Biden announced Friday on X that he would travel to Wayne County, Michigan, "to join the picket line and stand in solidarity with the men and women of UAW as they fight for a fair share of the value they helped create." It's a move some experts are calling apparently unprecedented in modern political History , something the White House has been quick to tout. "He supports the UAW workers and tomorrow what you're going to see is historic ," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday, although she declined to give further details on where exactly Biden will be, exactly what he'll do an...
