DOJ provides congressional leaders access to Trump, Biden, Pence classified docs: Sources

Image
The move follows months of contentious negotiations with Congress. The Justice Department has started to provide access to a group of bipartisan congressional leaders some of the classified materials recovered from the residences of former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence, sources familiar with the matter confirmed to ABC News Tuesday. Administration officials began sharing the documents with House and Senate leaders hip as well as the Democratic and Republican leaders of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees -- known as the "Gang of Eight" -- last week, sources said. The production follows months of increasingly contentious back-and-forth negotiations between lawmakers and the Justice Department, which now has two separate special counsel probes investigating the potential mishandling of classified materials by Trump and Biden. Russian military leaders were aware of Yevgeny Prigozhin's mutiny plan, according to U.S. officials. The United States assesses that members of Russia's military leadership were aware of Yevgeny Prigozhin's planned mutiny before he marched on Moscow, according to Biden administration officials. One senior official told ABC News' Martha Raddatz that General Sergei Surovikin, who was previously Russia's top commander in Ukraine, and others had conversations with Prigozhin before he instructed his paramilitary group to storm the capital city, resulting in the greatest threat to Russian President Vladimir Putin since he came into power more than two decades ago. Nicknamed "General Armageddon," Surovikin is known to have had a close relationship with Prigozhin in the past. He was also one of the first high-ranking Russian officials to call on Prigozhin to abandon his march in a video message posted on Friday. The top Russian military commander in Ukraine, G...

Former Proud Boys national chairman Enrique Tarrio is set to be sentenced Tuesday for his conviction on charges of seditious conspiracy and several other felonies stemming from his leader ship role in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol. While Tarrio was not present in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, prosecutors said he was the ring leader who helped orchestrate the events of Jan. 6. Prosecutors are seeking 33 years in prison for Tarrio, their harshest recommended sentence yet for an individual charged in connection with the attack -- though he is likely to receive much less than that based on the sentences handed down last week by U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly for four of Tarrio's co-defendants. Boosting Africa's creative industries should be leaders' priority, critics say

Critics argue investment in Africa's entertainment could help pay for the continent's pressing needs. When delegates from 49 countries and the African Union converged in Washington, D.C., for the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit this week, it appears one of Africa's most popular cultural ambassadors, Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, was not top of mind. Even so, the Grammy-award-winning artist sold out the nearby 20,000-seat capacity Capital One Arena just a few days beforehand. He also had filled every seat in iconic arenas like Madison Square Garden and State Farm Arena during the same "Love, Damini" tour. "People, like Burna Boy, the African continent has so many of them," Roger Muntu, host of the "RM Show," Voice of America's entertainment and culture show aimed at Africa, said. "They just haven't been discovered yet. Because there's no way, there's no means in this industry." Recording artist Burna Boy performs in c...
